Rev Sung Wook Hong is the senior pastor of Anyang First Presbyterian Church. He is a recognized influential leader for next generation. He finished his theological study at Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary(Th.B. & M.Div.) in Seoul and got his Ph. D. from Oxford Centre for Mission Studies in England. And also he studied at Princeton Theological Seminary as a visiting scholar.

In his book “Church is the only hope in the world”, Rev Hong determines the reason of worldwide church declination as the lack of missional heart and vision. He believes that missional church is the only solution to overcome the worldwide church declination.

Rev Hog not only suggests his theology of missional church in his book but also he put it into practice. His ministry is focused on building up missional church. Rev Hong has built up very successful missional church which could be a practical model of missional church in post-modern society. In fact it has got attentions from many churches in Korea.

Rev Hong’s goal is neither building up a mega-church nor becoming a famous pastor. His goal is to build up a model of church in Acts. To achieve this, he has tried to build up healthy church structure.

Anyang First Church was founded on 17th May in 1930. It was very traditional church. But it has been changed a lot since Rev Hong became the senior minister of Anyang First Church. Rev Hong has put the spiritual health of the church as the first priority of his ministry because without it a church cannot work. By the Grace of God and Rev Hong’s leadership, Anyang First Church has grown up rapidly and now has got about 20000 memberships and 50 pastors.

On the other hand Rev Hong has started discipleship training to bring spiritual growth in the Holy Spirit. He sees proper spiritual nurturing is essential part of our life as Jesus mentioned in John 15:4,5 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Rev Hong actual has put this into practice through his ministry because it was what was happening in early church in Acts. After building up such inner strength Rev Hong has inspired church members to be a missionary in every place where they are belonged to.

To witness Jesus Christ Anyang First church has adopted Evangelism Explosion program from Sunday school to adult to equip church members in order to be active Christian witness. Not only equip people to be active Christian witness but also Anyang First church has been supporting domestic churches with financial need.

Also Anyang First church has done ministry for people with disability and prison ministry and military ministry because as Jesus went to marginalized people it is our duty to share the love of God with them. Social justice is another import center of our ministry. We have been doing various community works such as free grocery service, school for elderly people and study room to provide tutoring for family with financial diculty so on.

Also Anyang First church has provided many different language services on Sunday to reach foreigners around local community. And also it has sent 58 missionaries to 19 countries and every year mission trip team goes out to remote area in oversea to be a help for missionaries in dicult area.
